Completion Date: 1997
Commissioned by: Irwell Sculpture Trail
Budget: £12,000.00
Location: Ramsbottom
The Commission: To create a community based, site specific artwork for Ramsbottom Wharf Picnic site.
The River Irwell was significant in the making of the town, bringing with it industry and work. We designed a piece that celebrates and appreciates our dependence on this natural resource. The River is an 88m stainless steel path in the form of the River Irwell as it passes through Ramsbottom, with two poems etched onto its surface.
Special about this project: The site specific interactive nature of the piece, it fits into its landscape and is relevant to the people and history of its location.
