Date: On-going
Commissioned by: C of E School of the Resurrection
Budget: £12,000.00
Location: Beswick, Manchester
The Commission: To work with pupils to design a 200m long path, around their playing field, with interactive art features based on the Commonwealth Games. (The school grounds are opposite the Sportscity stadium, where the games were held.)
The path takes its audience on a visual journey through several Commonwealth Countries. The motifs along the path are inspired by culture, pattern and the natural landscape of each country encountered.
As you walk along the path, you will come across a stone curve with cast bronze insets. This game is to match the currency of each country with the country’s principal industry.
There is also a circular stone and cast bronze word search.
Special about this project: This on–going art project has a clear educational value. For each chosen country pupils researched culture, history, economics and geography. They also used skills in English language to write a story to enhance the audience experience of the path. The pieces work on many different levels mixing fun, learning, exploration and education.
