Welcome to Monkey Business

Monkey Business is a professional group of artists who specialise in making meaningful works of art for public spaces.

Established in 1998 by Ann Gilligan and Tracey Cartledge, Monkey Business promotes good practice in the delivery of high quality public art projects. As a not-for-profit organisation, the partnership provides professional support for its artists and a comprehensive service to schools, community groups, local authorities and other organisations.

The Monkey Business team has steadily progressed, building on the combined experience and skills of its artists to pioneer new techniques and innovations within its repertoire of expertise. Karen Allerton of ‘Word of Mouth’ formally joined the partnership in 2005, having frequently worked with Monkey Business since autumn 1999.

The continued development of Monkey Business relies on genuine collaboration and learning from others. Monkey Business has a reliable network of associates with whom to consult and enduring working relationships with fabricators, landscape architects, designers, engineers and freelance artists from a range of disciplines.

Monkey Business has received commissions from local authorities, schools, public and private organisations and community groups across the North West of England and invite you to take a peep at some of its favourite projects featured in the website portfolio.
